PMI currently lists the CAPM exam fee at $225 for PMI members and $300 for non-members.

Is the CAPM Exam Hard?

CAPM demonstrates foundational knowledge. It does not replace workplace experience.
Someone earning CAPM immediately after college may not be competitive for the same project manager position as someone who has already spent five years delivering projects.
That does not make the certification ineffective. It means you should use it as part of a career progression.

Project Analyst

This can be a good fit if you enjoy the analytical side of project work.
Business Analyst
Business analysis now makes up 27% of the CAPM exam, making this career path particularly relevant to the current certification.
Business analysts may gather requirements, work with stakeholders, analyze business needs, document processes, support product decisions, and help teams understand what a solution needs to accomplish.
Job requirements vary significantly, but CAPM now provides more direct exposure to business analysis concepts than it did when this article was originally published.
Project Manager
Some CAPM holders do move directly into project manager positions, particularly when they already have relevant industry or project experience under another job title.
For candidates with little professional experience, however, a coordinator, analyst, or assistant role may provide a more realistic first opportunity to build the track record employers expect from project managers.
What Comes After CAPM?
CAPM can be the beginning of a project management career rather than the final credential.
As you gain experience leading projects, you may eventually become eligible for the PMP certification.
